Spent the past week in Chisanau (capital of Moldova--former soviet eastern european country) for work. Got a chance to run, although the streets and sidewalks are way too overcrowded to run during daylight hours. Not to mention nobody runs for exercise in this country. One of the Moldovan military guys I was working with explained it as, "I guess everyone is more worried about trying to make money to survive, no one is living comfortably enough to do things like jog in the park." Anyway, I did a few miles at 3:00 in the morning one night. This involved being threatened by some drunk local guys, getting chased by wild dogs, yelled at by a bum in a park, and being accosted by prostitutes. That Tough Mudder shit isn't adventure, go for a jog in a former soviet city. Some pics follow.
Independence monument (gained independence in 1991 like most soviet satellites)
Parliament building
Memorial park to the Great Patriotic War (WWII)
Streetside stand (they are everywhere and sell anything from paintings to pantyhose)
Very soviet looking building
European continental breakfast
The country is famous in the region for its wine (and it is pretty good)
